I have known from early on that breathing is important. But I was always taught diaphragm and belly breathing, so that is what I have done myself. Now I realize that this likely has been causing my low back tightness and contributed to rigidity in my spine. Doing the breathing exercises has been a challenge, but I feel some improvement and will continue to progress myself. I also realized that I pretty much wasn’t using my abdominal muscles at all. What!? It’s true. I have had these patterns for years, so it won’t change overnight, but I believe it will help exercise feel more comfortable and help me feel better overall.
